Wyoming, Mich. - Davenport University men's golfers are starting to put their stamp on the Grand Rapids local golf season, now on the amateur side. Justin Welker and Ben Duthler teamed up this weekend to defeat pver 40 teams in the West Michigan Best Ball Championships held at LE Kaufman in Wyoming, MI. As the men's team is currently in Plymouth, IN preparing for their first ever National Tournament, Welker and Duthler decided to give it a shot in the first local tournament of the year and after firing rounds of 66 and 69, they won the West Michigan Best Ball Championship. Welker, a sophomore from Speedway, IN and Duthler also a sophomore from Grand Rapids, MI joined 40 other teams this weekend at LE Kaufman Golf Course for the Best Ball Format. The scoring for the event is based on the best score from the two individual scores after each hole. For example, if Justin made a 3 on Hole #1 and Ben made a 4, their team would score a 3 for the hole. |
